Early on the scene, the BY1 was the defacto standard for iambic paddles for many years, and this 4 pound beauty still performs very well.
While not as glitzy as it's
close relatives the chrome plated BY-2 and the gold plated BY-3, it still looks good while doing yeoman duty on my operating desk where
it's currently plugged into the K-2.
Bencher Inc. lists them at $125
but I was lucky to snag mine on E-bay for less than half that figure.
Notice the beautiful clear cover personalized with my call sign. It was custom built by Plastics and graphics I had searched off and on for a Bencher cover, but one simply wasn't available.
Then one day at our weekly lunch gathering, Jim Lasley, NØJL, displayed a very nice clear plastic call sign plaque for show and tell.
Turns out that Jim's sister-in-law, Judy Koh,
manfactures many products in plexiglass, acrylic, and lexan. Some email correspondence with Judy produced this nice cover at a very fair price. I supplied the dimensions and
she did the work. Is that a good deal or what?
